On the way from Lumding to Haflong, 18 km back lays Leikul. It is a very beautiful village. As I climbed up the steep road, the view of the valley took my mind away. After climbing about 5 km, I reached a football ground. For a football lover to spot a football ground and a goal post means a lot. But sadly it was a Sunday, so everyone was off to church, so there was no option for playing football.
After crossing the football ground, we stopped in front of a primary school, the students were all praying. The father of the school asked us to wait a little; he was arranging a tour guide for us. Eco – tourism has just started in Leikul, there are about 10 home stays. Luna is the head, she was also the sarpanch. The Father introduced us to our guide “Thunder” There are two trekking routes from leikul, one 7kms and the other 2kms. From the top of the hill in the way of 7 km trek you can see some hills of North East including Manipur, Nagaland and in the way of 2 km you can see Leikul Falls, a total of three. Last night it had rained and it made the road pretty dangerous as it was very slippery, it was dangerous to trek but it made the trekking all the more thrilling.
We were quite tired after trekking but as soon as the sound of the waterfall reached my ears, all the fatigue washed away in one big swoop. The waterfall made the environment all the more enchanting. After spending quite a bit of a time, I came back with a sigh. It was not some usual 7km trek. I was extremely fascinated by the sincerity of Leikul Village. Luna invited us to her home and arranged some water and tea for us to drink. The living room for the guests was quite beautiful it had wooden furniture; it also had large windows at the back. I went around with Luna to check out all the home stays. Even after having such a hectic day, I wasn’t feeling tired at all, I realised that body could be tired by the mind couldn’t. The rent of the house was 500 rupees. Food was priced starting from 200 rupees.
