One of the natural wonders of the world – Sundarbans

Sunderbans is one of the natural wonders of the world. It is located in the delta region of Ganges, Bambhraptra and Meghnadi basin. Sundarban got its name after being recognized by UNESCO in 1997 as the world’s traditional mangrove forest. Sunderbans include beautiful forests and the Sundari tree(Heritiera littoralis) from where it got its name. Even though most of it is in Bangladesh, some of it lies in the district of South 24 Parganas in West Bengal, India. ALong with Sundari tree garana, gewa, golpata trees can also be seen The main attraction of Sundarban is the Royal Bengal Tiger. It is also home to large crocodiles, deer, snakes and other birds.

In order to visit Sundarban, you will have to take a local train or bus from Sealdah to Canning. From Canning you have to come to Gadkhali by car and from Gadhkhali you will have to take the launch and book packages for the tour. There is a facility of staying and eating in launch. You can also stay at a hotel in Gadkhali or Sajane Khali which is offered to you with a little extra charge in this package. But if you are an adventure lover, you can spend the night at the launch and hear the roars of the tigers in the forest and the sound of the crocodiles swimming.

On the first day we were taken to Gosaba by the launch. Over there we were shown Mr. Hamilton’s bungalow and Mr. Bacon’s bungalow which are made of wood. Rabindranath Tagore has come here and spent some time here. However due to lack of maintenance the Bungalows are now in ruins. Lunch, tree and dinner were provided on the launch.
On the second day we were shown the core areas of Sundarbans. First you can your breakfast then you will have to get the permission card to go to the Sundarbans at Sajne Kali. There are some good hotels here which you can get in this package if you want. c

On the third day we were taken to Jharkhali. We were taken to the Wildlife Animal Park which was indeed very beautiful. And there is the Tiger Reserve Project. If you haven’t seen ever tigers in the forest, there are arrangements for you to see them here. There is also Satakkhali Island. With all this, our three-day Sundarbans was successful. You have to come to Sundarbans, the natural wonder of the world, to get close to the thrill of wildlife!

How to go-
From Sealdah to Canning by local train or bus and from there by car to Gadkhali and from Gadkhali various launches are booked or you can come with a tour agency in order to get better services.
Where to stay
If you like adventure, you can stay at the launch or else you can stay at any hotel of your choice but in the latter case the cost are included in the package.
