Nature’s blessing Keonjhar

Mountains, forests, waterfalls! 225 km from Bhubaneswar and 117 km from Jajpur, Orissa, Keonjhar welcomes you. You are going to find everything here be it calm hills covered with shawl mahua kendua leaves, the creation of the Mahabharata, the turbulent Baitarani River, with it there are high springs and there is the Bhimkunda waterfall made by one of the mythological characters of the Mahabharata, Bhima.

Keonjhar is mainly a hilly area surrounded by shawls, Mahua Kendu leaves. This is the name of the entire district and the name of the city. Seeing the creation of green nature, the mind will want to go down again and again to the forest. Baraghaghara waterfall is only 10 km away from Keonjhar. Water gushing down from a height of 200 from Baraghaghara dam will blow your mind. The unique beauty of the sunset in the nature surrounded by hills on three sides will calm your mind.
At a distance of 60 km from Keonjhar, the main attraction is the Khandadhar waterfall. The water gushes down from five hundred meters above. You can also find a rainbow. The water flowing down will overwhelm your mind with serenity. After going for a while, you can see the source of Baitarani River.

I climbed 200 steps to see the source of the water. The water was streaming down from two stone holes like the nose of a black cow inside the temple. This is Gonasika. It was quite surprising to think that this narrow stream of Gonasika has taken a massive form in Bhimkund. Next to it you can see Kanjhari Dam, Ghatgaon Tarini Devi Temple and Gundichaghai Falls.

The next morning we left to go to Bhimkund we travelled 85km. Our driver Jagannathda said, “You will see the river you saw yesterday, then you will see it today and then tell me what I saw!” The high mounds on the rocks around the viewpoint can be seen from there. On the other side of the river, Keonjhar, on the other side, Mayurbhanj. It is said that this Bhimkund was made by hitting Bhim’s hitting his ‘Gada’. The waterfall was indeed very unique; the water was gushing down from above to a pool and again creating another waterfall from there. It was quite appalling to see the water fall change such drastically in Bhimkund. With all the blessings of Orissa Keonjhar is a wonderful creation of nature.
