There is not a single person in this world who does not want to see Palash in the season of Dol (Holi). Every year many people plan on going to Jharkhand. The tourism sector is so backward in Jharkhand and Orissa that despite having such beautiful landscapes, they have not been able to utilise its full potential. If the entire Chhotanagpur landscape could be used, the mood of Sikkim-North Bengal could be replaced here in Jharkhand.
The train for going to Kenchki is Shaktipunj Express. You can visit Kenchki in no time, after having a perfect lunch; you can board the train and take a nap in it and by the time to wake up you would already be in Daltonganj by half past two in the morning.
I’ve been to Ranchi many times, often I used to get down in Ranchi in the morning and hop in a car, and it’s about four hours to Kenchki from Ranchi. CESC’s guest house is the only accommodation you are going to find here in Kenchki. It’s a perfect place to stay on the banks of the river Koel. You have to cook on your own. Almost everything is available in the shops nearby, but if you are one of those who love indulging in meat or wine, then you probably should plan beforehand. Accommodation is pretty basic as a result; if you are planning to bring your family along then it might cause them a little bit of discomfort. It is advisable to stay in Betala, if your family tags along but you will be deprived of that proximity to Koel.
The person I need to mention is our driver Birbal otherwise the story remains unfinished; He has been a driver and guide to us. The USP of this special person is that whether it would be half past two in the morning or ten at night, Birbal was always ready with the car. Every trip was an opportunity to find and know about something new. Mandal is another place that deserves special mention it is about an hour and a half away from Kenchki or Betala. The Koel River floating through the chest of the hill seemed to sway in my mind. I turned around and reached to the other end in the valley. It felt as if the Koel River had supplied an extra amount of oxygen to my lungs.
There are quite a few other places that you can visit like the Lodha Falls but wherever you go make sure you return before four in the afternoon.
Car rental is between 2000-3000 rupees.
You need to be familiar with the employees if you want to book CESC guest house. You will get a total of 3 rooms and about 12 people can stay properly. But if you plan on bringing your family along then I suggest you spend your stay at Betala.
