Destination Nepal

Six months ago, Simon asked me to go to Nepal on a vacation along with his family. This might not sound very luxurious. Our trip to Nepal started with Simon’s family and some other families. We came through Pashupati and Kankarvita to enter Nepal. The roads of Nepal are smooth as butter.

It took us quite a while to get the car permit, we entered Pokhara at half past one in the night but the management of Orchid hotel was so good that we didn’t have any problem. Our 10rs is 16rs in Nepal but despite that prices of food are soaring high. We were all fatigued by the road journey but waking up in the morning, seeing Mt Annapurna through the window of the hotel made us forget about the heckles of the previous day.

After a hearty breakfast, we set out for SarangKot … I can’t express the feling in words after seeing Mt Annapurna from Sarankot. Hotel owner Bijaya Karki was with us. He suggested us to go for paragliding. I never thought that I would be able to do these things for my vertigo, but I did, what can I say, it is a great experience! I did it from ‘Open Sky’ organisation, it cost between Rs6000-Rs7000 per head.

There are a lot of restaurants around Fewa Tal Lake in Pokhara, guitars and flutes were being played somewhere, it was a quite unique atmosphere, the streets were gleaming, there was not even a single plastic, it is very safe to walk on the streets even at night. Pokhara is like a small Europe. The view of the sunset at the lake was heavenly. Nepal is a paradise for those who love pork, beef and mutton. Nepal’s famous whiskey “Old darbar” costs between Rs 2150-Rs 2400.

The next day I bid farewell to Pokhara in the morning, we, then set out for Mustang, the road after Beni is not that good, the road was filled dust and boulder and is like that old Sandakfu. It is impossible to drive above 10 km / h. We had to rent another car for this trip. It cost us about 25000 per car in Indian currency for two days. Although if you don’t go to Mustang, you can get cars at 5-6 thousand rupees in Indian currency

Mustang is a dream place. It is called Tibetan Plateau. A rustic feeling … Kagbeni and Marfa include small villages, Nepalese people and Tibetans live there. With the weather at minus something degree in December and the strong wind speed makes it look like a Cold Desert. The two best hotels here are Om’s home and Hotel Majesty. Mustang’s best location is Muktinath Temple,a paradise of nature at an altitude of about 4000 meters.

If you don’t spend a day in Tatopani and a day in Kalopani on the way back and forth from Mustang, your Mustang tour would be in vain, especially Kalopani, a neatly arranged valley with Dhaulagiri on either side of the Nilgiris. You will see Snow peak wherever you look, as if you can touch it if you want.

Our destination from Mustang was Chitwan National Park. This is Nepal’s most famous national park, with elephant baths on the banks of the Rapti River, crocodiles, alligators sunbathing, whiskey or wine or cold drinks with Beef or Pork Kabab. The environment on the banks of the river Rapti in Chitwan is one of a kind.

You need to know that the Kankarvita gate gets closed at 10 o clock at night. Ifyou go by car get out before that time. In Nepal only Rs 100 note of Indian currency is recognised as legal tender. If you take out Rs 20000 from ATM then Rs 500 will be deducted.

You can come directly to Kathmandu by flight. In that case, spend two days in Kathmandu, then two days in the car, two days for Mustang, and two days for Chitwan. If you go by bus, you can go to Pokhara from Kankarvita by night bus, you can also go to Pokhara by bus, but it is very difficult on the bus uptill Pokhara is fine but not Mustang, the roads are being made right now, go after a couple of years … If you really go to Nepal, save some good amount of money and then go. It is better not to go on a package tour.
