Shimoga


Shimoga is a small town in the western part of Karnataka, a beautiful state in the south-western part of India. It is 70 square kilometres in area and about 560 meters above the ground. The name of the district is also the name of the city. Multiple universities, with their picture-like cosmos, are constantly improving the quality of the city’s selfless pursuits. Notable names are Kuvempu University, Jaharlal Nehru College of Engineering, Shimoga Institute of Medical Sciences. These beautiful campuses have high mountains on one side and forests on the other. Sanctuary of different species of birds, elephants, and leopards can be found here. Leopard cubs keep entering into the university campuses from time to time. Campuses are so large that it is impossible to cover the whole campuses without cars, bicycles or bikes.

One of the best attractions in Shimoga is Jog Falls, its one hundred kilometers from the city. Jog Falls has the reputation of being the highest waterfall in Asia. The wonderful natural beauty will fascinate and overwhelm the tourists. However, there is no other means of transportation other than cars, the condition of the road is not good. Another place of interest in Shimoga are Shivappa Nayak Palace Museum, Mattu Lake, Sacred Heart Cathedral Church. On the wide lawn of the museum, stone sculptures made in the sixteenth and eighteenth centuries are carefully preserved. In addition to natural decoration, Shimoga is famous for its handicrafts made of cottage industry, sandalwood and rosewood. You can collect them as souvenirs and gifts.

There are direct flights to Shimoga, Shimoga has its own airport, which is only six kilometres away from the city. There are also regular buses and trains from Bangalore. You can reach this small beautiful town in five hours to see the natural beauty.

There is no shortage of luxury resorts, lodges, hotels to stay. It is better to book in advance. Needless to say, this small town in South India will captivate the minds of tourists with its heritage, culture, and natural beauty.
