Gandahati Waterfalls – The search for the unknown.

I reached Palasa station by Howrah-Yashwantpur Express at 8 am. Two friends had cancelled the ticket at the very last minute, so my partner was Atanu Da. I hurried out, had a light breakfast, rented an auto and went out in search of an unknown. A little beyond the city is a small hill on either side of the road, with paddy fields and small villages in its vicinity. As far as the eye could see, only green leaves will make you forget the fatigue of the journey. I crossed the border of Andhra and entered Orissa. The condition of the road was not that good. However, the last 5 km of the road was as smooth as butter. On both sides there is only a forest of cashew trees and a black pitch road through it. Two hours later I saw the signboard of Orissa Tourism… ..Gandahati Waterfalls 2 km. I saw the main entrance a little further down the road.

The place was surrounded by wild plants, fruits and flowers. There was a swarm of colourful butterflies on flowers. I was intoxicated by the chirping of birds. I walked along the paved road at the entrance. There were benches for sitting on both sides of the road. A little further on, a sound came to my ears, it was the sound a beautiful waterfall which could be seen through the gap of the forest. From afar, he has been asserting his existence in a loud voice. Finally, after going a little further, Gandahati Waterfalls completely overwhelmed me with joy. From a height of about 70 feet, the white waters of the Mahendra Tanaya River were streaming down into the rocks, and the water droplets from there are forming a mist-like lining. Some boys were bathing in the spring water. The Orissa Tourism Department has turned this place into a park. So naturally it became a hot spot for everyone from children to adults. In winter this place becomes overcrowded. Tourists come from different parts of Andhra Pradesh and Orissa. This tourist spot in the Parlakhemundi Forest Range in Gajapati district of Orissa once had a free range for elephants, hence the popular name of the place “Gandahati”. The ideal time to visit here is from late August to October.
